MASON CITY, Iowa — Attorneys are planning an insanity defense for a 42-year-old Mason City man charged with killing his father.
The lawyers for Thomas Barlas Jr. last week filed court notices of their intent. He's charged with first-degree murder, accused of stabbing to death 73-year-old Thomas Barlas Sr. at the elder Barlas' home in Mason City on July 18.
The defendant already has pleaded not guilty. A trial date has not been set.
