NEW LONDON, Connecticut — A 23-year-old Norwich has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shaken-baby death of a 13-month old toddler he had been babysitting.

Michael Rios faces 14 years in prison under his plea bargain when he is sentenced on Sept. 29.

Prosecutors say Rios fatally injured Madison Reid on May 2, 2013 while watching the baby for her mother, who had gone to work.

Rios took the girl to Backus Hospital in Norwich and she was flown from there to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford. She died the next day after undergoing emergency brain surgery.

Members of the child's family appeared in New London Superior Court Thursday wearing pink T-Shirts that read "Madison Matters."
