Father, son real estate investors sentenced to 20 months in prison in Ala. bid rigging scheme

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Two real estate investors have been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for bid rigging at public foreclosure auctions and mail fraud.

Department of Justice officials said Monday that Jason Brannon, of Mobile, and his father, Robert Brannon, of Laurel, Mississippi, were each sentenced to 20 months in prison.

Authorities say the two conspired with others to fraudulently purchase real estate properties at public foreclosure auctions in southern Alabama. Mail fraud charges stem from the Brannons using the postal service to acquire titles to properties that were purchased.

Officials say the two and their company, J&R Properties LLC, have also been ordered to pay nearly $22,000 in restitution to the victims of the fraud.

Authorities say eight people have pleaded guilty to charges associated with this case.
