NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana's unemployment rate dropped slightly to 6.5 percent in October, according to figures released Friday by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The jobless rate showed improvement from August (7 percent) and September (6.8 percent). The unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in October 2012.
Louisiana figures showed 8,600 more people had jobs in October than September. The state also showed a 30,800 gain over October 2012.
Louisiana had 136,000 unemployed people in October, down from 142,000 in September but still up from 123,000 in October 2012.
Nevada retained the nation's worst jobless rate at 9.3 percent, while North Dakota was again lowest at 2.7 percent.
The national unemployment rate was little changed from September at 7.3 percent and was 0.6 percentage point lower than in October 2012.
