SMYRNA, Delaware — Corrections officials say an inmate at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna has died after a long illness.

The Department of Correction said 53-year-old Richard H. Lum of Lewes died Wednesday morning at the prison infirmary. Authorities say Lum died of natural causes, and his body will be turned over to the medical examiner, as is standard procedure.

Lum was serving a life sentence for a conviction in 1988 for unlawful sexual intercourse.
