Chicago man charged in connection with shootings that left 1 dead and another man hospitalized

Share/Save/Bookmark

CHICAGO — A Chicago man is being held without bond after being charged with killing a convenience store clerk and later wounding a friend of his father's.

Joey Jones is accused of shooting to death 57-year-old Omar Maslat as Maslat tried to lock the door of a store as Jones tried to leave after a dispute Tuesday with another clerk. Assistant State's Attorney Robert Mack said Wednesday that a little over three hours after later, Jones met his father at a currency exchange, where he shot another man in the neck.

Mack says Jones was captured on surveillance cameras in both shootings, and his girlfriend saw him try to conceal a gun after the second shooting.

Jones was arrested later at his apartment.

Prosecutors didn't say what motivated the shootings.
