Adam Maher scores twice against his old club as PSV beats AZ Alkmaar to stay top of Eredivisie

AMSTERDAM — Midfielder Adam Maher scored twice against his old club Saturday as PSV Eindhoven beat AZ Alkmaar 3-0 to stay top of the Dutch Eredivisie.

Winger Luciano Narsingh opened PSV's account after 20 minutes, sliding the ball under goalkeeper Sergio Rochet after latching onto a pass by Jetro Willems.

Maher got his first nine minutes later, scoring after Rochet failed to gather a cross by Willems, and completed his brace four minutes from half time.

Second-placed Ajax went behind early at FC Twente, to a 17th-minute Jesus Corona goal, before Iceland striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson leveled in the 71st.

The draw left Ajax four points behind PSV after nine rounds. Third-placed PEC Zwolle was playing Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday.
