Virginia Beach motorist charged after state trooper hurt in I-264 construction zone accident

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia — Virginia State Police say a Virginia Beach man has been charged after a trooper's parked vehicle was struck in a construction zone.

State police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya says the trooper's cruiser was struck from behind by a station wagon around 4:20 a.m. Monday on eastbound Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach.

Anaya said in a statement that the motorist fled the scene and was apprehended a short time later. She says 53-year-old Anthony Deanes was charged with felony hit and run, driving under the influence and damaging state property. Deanes was taken to the Virginia Beach Jail.

The trooper was treated for minor injuries. The trooper's name was not immediately released.
