Flash flooding a concern as stormy weather moves into Miss.

JACKSON, Mississippi — Heavy rain moving across the South prompted early morning flash flood warnings for some areas in Mississippi.

The National Weather Service says strong to severe storms are possible throughout the day and into Saturday in Jackson, Harrison, Hancock, Pearl River, Stone and George counties in South Mississippi.

The storms could contain gusts of 50 to 60 mph, with lightning and hail possible.

The weather service said the area can expect 1 to 3 inches of rain with higher amounts possible in spots.

A flash flood watch remains in effect through Saturday.
