LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police say officers shot and killed a burglary suspect in a residential neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills.

Sgt. Robert Ward says police responded Saturday afternoon after a resident encountered an intruder inside a home. The suspect fled and officers set up a perimeter and searched the area.

Officials say the shooting happened when officers encountered the suspect a short time later. The suspect was not identified.

No officers were hurt.

The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/1RNQ0qL) a handgun and items stolen from the home were found on the suspect after the shooting.
