Searchers recover body of boy missing since he fell into river in southwest Ohio on Monday

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ohio — Searchers have recovered the body of an 8-year-old boy missing since he fell into a river in southwest Ohio on Monday.

Hamilton County sheriff's spokesman Mike Robison says the boy's body was found Wednesday afternoon. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the boy fell into the water in the area where the Great Miami River meets the Whitewater River. He fell while his family was fishing at the mouth of the Whitewater River in Elizabethtown, west of Cincinnati near the Ohio-Indiana line.

Neither the Hamilton County coroner's office nor the sheriff's office could confirm the boy's name and hometown. The Whitewater Township Fire Department didn't immediately return calls Wednesday.

Robison said strong currents and changing water levels complicated the search. Crews from Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky participated in the search.
