MORRISTOWN, New Jersey — A northern New Jersey woman has lost her bid to overturn her murder conviction in the fatal shooting of her husband.
A state appellate court rejected Amalia Mirasola's request in a ruling made public Wednesday.
The Butler woman, who has multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair, has maintained she acted in self-defense when she shot 43-year-old Carl Mirasola six times in May 2010. She's currently serving a 40-year sentence.
Family members have said the couple was planning to end their 19-year-marriage when the shooting occurred inside their home. They had been arguing over financial and custody issues involving their three children.
Amalia Mirasola had challenged the admission of statements she made to police and the limits put on her bid to raise claims that her husband committed child abuse.
