WANDO, South Carolina — Officials say a weekend fire did about $25 million in damage and destroyed a building at a chemical plant outside of Charleston.

Area media outlets report that the fire on Saturday gutted a three-story compressor building at the BP Amoco plant in Wando, which is just north of Mount Pleasant.

Crews were at the scene several hours and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings that contained hazardous materials. There were no injuries and there was no immediate word on what caused the blaze.
