Mason City man found guilty of first-degree murder for strangling girlfriend in apartment

MASON CITY, Iowa — A Mason City man has been convicted of first-degree murder for the July strangulation death of his girlfriend.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/19ZZRii) that it took less than three hours for the Cerro Gordo County to reach a verdict Monday.

Aaron Harris now faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole for the death of 40-year-old Sarah Winters, of Mason City.

The jury rejected the defense by Harris' attorney that he had been too drunk at the time of Winters death to be responsible for it.

A sentencing date was not set.
