HENDERSON, North Carolina — A man has been arrested and charged with killing his father in Vance County.

Authorities told local media outlets that 27-year-old Willie Ralph McAffee III is charged with murder and arson in the death of his father, 53-year-old Willie Ralph McAffee II.

Sheriff Peter White said the elder man was found in his burned mobile home in Henderson shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities said the younger man beat his father and then set the home on fire. Investigators are trying to determine if the victim was killed from the beating or the fire.

It was not clear if the younger man has a lawyer.
