BILLINGS, Montana — Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder has released the names of those involved in the fatal shooting of a man by two deputies this past week.

Linder says the man who died was 28-year-old Loren Simpson, of Billings, and the deputies involved in the Thursday night incident were Jason Robinson and Christopher Rudolph.

The sheriff says Robinson has been a Yellowstone County deputy for three years while Rudolph joined the office last September after several years of previous law enforcement experience.

Linder says the deputies shot the man as he accelerated toward them in a stolen SUV.

The shooting marks the fourth officer-involved shooting in Montana in the past three weeks.

The incident remains under investigation, and the two deputies are on paid administrative leave.
