Mannington to demolish bridge built in 1926 and build new span, project to begin in February

MANNINGTON, West Virginia — Mannington officials plan to demolish a bridge built in 1926 and replace it with a new span.

Demolition of the Clarksburg Street Bridge is scheduled to begin in February. Construction of a new bridge is expected to begin in April. The project will cost $2.5 million.

Mayor James Taylor tells WBOY-TV ( ) that it will be difficult to tear down the bridge. But he says safety is a top priority.

Taylor says it took the city about three years to obtain funding for the project.

Another bridge built in 1926, the Buffalo Street Bridge, is owned by the state. Taylor says city officials hope the state will do its part and replace that bridge.
