Florida Power & Light Co. reduces estimate of overall 2013 rate increase to $1.41 per month

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Power & Light Co. has knocked $1.07 per month off its estimate for a proposed 2013 overall rate increase.

The state's largest electric utility Friday announced it's now projecting a $1.41 per month increase instead of $ 2.48. That's if the Florida Public Service Commission approves a $690.4 million annual hike in base rates.

The estimates are for 1,000 kilowatt hours per month, which is about average.

The base rate estimate actually is up slightly, but FPL now expects to drop its fuel charge $7.71 per month. It also made up and down changes in a pair of charges for nuclear plants.

The overall rate now is estimated to increase by 57 cents in January and another 84 cents six months later for a $96.03 June total.
