NORMAN, Oklahoma — Police in Norman say an officer shot and critically wounded a knife-wielding man after the man refused to drop the weapon.

Police say the man is hospitalized in Oklahoma City in critical condition. Police have not released the names of either the man or the officer.

Police say the man was allegedly armed with a knife when walked into a fast-food restaurant shortly before noon Wednesday and hit an employee there before leaving.

Police say an officer responding to the call to the restaurant followed the man to the parking lot of a nearby gas station and shot him several times after he refused to stop and drop the knife and instead moved toward the officer.

Police say the officer was not injured.
