Driver dies after hitting motorcycle, other cars in Phoenix intersection

PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a woman died after her vehicle collided with a scooter and two other cars.

Sgt. Trent Crump says the incident occurred in central Phoenix on Saturday around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Thomas Road and 16th Street.

According to authorities, the woman's Ford Focus was traveling eastbound on Thomas when it struck the motorized scooter.

Crump says the Ford Focus continued through the intersection, where it hit the other vehicles before stopping.

Crump says the 77-year-old woman was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Phoenix firefighters say two other people were treated at the scene and released.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the accident. They say initial evidence shows the woman may have died of natural causes or a medical condition.
