GOLDEN, Colorado — More communities are enacting fire restrictions as hot, dry, gusty weather fuels wildfires around Colorado.
Jefferson County on Tuesday banned open burning and the use of fireworks in unincorporated parts of the county. Campfires are allowed only in permanently constructed fire grates in developed recreation sites or at private homes. Smoking also is banned except in enclosed vehicles or buildings, at developed recreation sites, or while stopped in an area with no combustible material within six feet.
The city of Lone Tree south of Denver enacted similar restrictions Tuesday, a day after Douglas County did the same.
Crews around Colorado are fighting at least four major wildfires, including one that burned some homes in the Black Forest area near Colorado Springs and evacuated hundreds more.
