3 charged in hit-and-run crash that left Syracuse-area bicyclist in critical condition

CLAY, New York — Police have charged three people in connection with a hit-and-run accident that has left a Syracuse-area man in critical condition.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says 37-year-old Rachel Brown of Baldwinsville was using her cellphone while driving early Saturday morning when she drove onto the shoulder of a road in the town of Clay and struck 18-year-old Anthony Burkard as he rode his broke.

Emergency crews found Burkard on the side the road around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He's listed in critical condition at a Syracuse hospital.

The charges against Brown include leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it. Deputies charged her sister and boyfriend were charged with hindering prosecution.

Brown is being held Monday in the county jail on $250,000 bail. It couldn't be determined if she has a lawyer.
