FULLERTON, Calif. — A newspaper has learned that two Fullerton police officers charged in the death of a mentally ill homeless man have been notified they will be fired.
The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/K24AXJ ) says it has confirmed that Officer Manuel Ramos and Cpl. Jay Cicinelli were told in a letter of Capt. Dan Hughes' intention to fire them.
The findings are independent of the pending criminal charges against the officers in the death of Kelly Thomas.
Cicinelli's stepfather John Huelsman tells the newspaper Cicinelli received a letter detailing policy infractions, including using too much force.
Ramos' attorney declined to comment on any discipline his client may face and a lawyer for Cicinelli did not respond to the Register's phone calls for comment.
Cicinelli's stepfather John Huelsman tells the newspaper Cicinelli received a letter detailing policy infractions, including using too much force.
Huelsman says his stepson plans to fight the firing.
