Moss Point leaders move forward with major Hurricane Katrina project, a new police station

MOSS POINT, Mississippi — Moss Point leaders have advanced a major Hurricane Katrina project still remaining for the city.

The Sun Herald reports ( aldermen voted Tuesday night for a project manager on a $4.2 million police department building that will be built in the downtown area.

The plan is to build it in a parking lot next to the new Central Fire Station. An area was cleared for additional parking when the city took down a building in the old strip mall.

The current police department, behind the old City Hall structure, was flooded by Katrina's storm surge in 2005.

The city's community development head said ground could be turned as early as next month and city leaders said with good weather, it could be completed in eight months.
