BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The administrator for the northern district of Alabama's federal bankruptcy court has tapped a three-member committee to represent unsecured creditor in Jefferson County's bankruptcy case.
The Birmingham News reports (http://bit.ly/JLJqwD) that J. Thomas Corbett filed the recommendation last week.
He stated in his recommendation that he asked for participation on the committee from a list of Jefferson County's 20 largest unsecured creditors. Those creditors are owed money by Jefferson County for various services or materials but don't hold a lien or mortgage on any county property.
Jefferson County in November filed the largest government bankruptcy in U.S. history and is rapidly spending its cash reserves.
