MANTEO, North Carolina — The National Park Service is holding two open houses this week to learn what the public thinks of a proposal to pump sand along the eroding beach in Buxton.

The open houses will be held Tuesday at the Dare County Government Office in Manteo and Wednesday at the Fessenden Center in Buxton.

Dare County is seeking a special use permit to nourish the beach in front of motels and other private property in Buxton to protect N.C. Highway 12. The county needs permission from the park service because the project includes land within and adjacent to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
