Truck with front wheel dangling off Boston highway creates commuter woes, delays trains

BOSTON — A two-vehicle crash left a truck with its front wheel hanging over the edge of an elevated highway in Boston and created major commuter headaches.

The box truck and a car crashed on Interstate 93 southbound in the city's Dorchester neighborhood at about 6 a.m. Thursday, and both drivers were taken to the hospital.

Even after the truck was towed at about 8:30 a.m., traffic remained backed up in both directions on the busy highway.

The truck driver was a 57-year-old Woburn man and the car driver was a 42-year-old Attleboro man. No names were released.

Because the truck was hanging over railway tracks, the MBTA temporarily suspended trolley service in the area and was using shuttle buses to move passengers.

Commuter rail service on some lines was also affected.
