Youth gets probation for bringing guns to school, can still go hunting

VIRGINIA CITY, Montana — A 15-year-old southwest Montana boy charged with bringing two guns to school in January because he wanted to show people "you don't need an assault rifle to shoot up a school," has reached a plea agreement that calls for treatment and probation.

However, he will still be able to go on family hunting trips.

The Montana Standard reports (http://bit.ly/17Ilrsj) the boy pleaded "true" Monday to a Youth Court charge of criminal endangerment.

Judge Loren Tucker sentenced the boy to complete a youth home treatment program before being released to his parents. Tucker says while on probation, the boy must avoid all firearms with the exception of family hunting trips.

The boy brought the guns to school in Harrison just over a month after 26 students and staff members were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut
