CHICAGO — A former Cook County commissioner is now in prison, serving his sentence for tax evasion.
William Beavers was sentenced to six months in prison after his March conviction for failing to declare campaign money as income after he used the cash to gamble.
The 78-year-old had hoped to remain free while his lawyers appealed his case, but a federal appeals court shot down his request in November.
Federal Bureau of Prisons records on Tuesday show that Beavers is now an inmate at a facility near Rochester, Minnesota He had been ordered to report there on Monday.
