NORTH BAY SHORE, New York — Police say a New York City man has been arrested for fatally striking another man with his own vehicle as he attempted to stop a carjacking.

Suffolk County police say Saturday Edwin Gutierrez faces a murder charge and other crimes in the Nov. 28 death of 69-year-old Dionel Ramirez.

Police say Ramirez parked his car at a 7-Eleven, leaving it running while picking up food he was to deliver to a soup kitchen.

That's when they say Gutierrez climbed into the car and started to drive away.

Police say Ramirez tried to stop the 48-year-old Manhattan man but was run over. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Gutierrez is to be arraigned Sunday. Attorney information wasn't immediately available.

Police working with a fugitive task force apprehended Gutierrez.
