FORT KENT, Maine — University of Maine System trustees are beginning a two-day meeting at the system's northernmost campus, a move that's being criticized by some students and faculty at the University of Southern Maine.

The trustees begin their meeting Sunday at the University of Fort Kent before holding votes the following day on elimination of three academic programs at the University of Southern Maine.

Officials at UMaine-Fort Kent and USM originally proposed flipping the meeting schedule, moving up the Fort Kent meeting to September and pushing back the USM meeting to November.

Trustees have decided to stick with that schedule even though critics of the move to eliminate USM programs say they won't be able to attend the meeting in northern Maine.
