Dodgers activate Chris Capuano to start against Diamondbacks; Mark Ellis goes on DL

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated left-hander Chris Capuano to start a series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Second baseman Mark Ellis was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, a move retroactive to April 27, because of a strained right quadriceps.

Capuano is making his second start of the season. He began the season in the bullpen because of a glut of starting pitching and strained his left calf during a 9-2 loss to San Diego on April 16, when he gave up five runs, five hits and two walks in two innings.

Ellis is batting .342 with two homers and 11 RBIs.
