Ontario police shoot burglary suspect after he allegedly rams their vehicle trying to escape


ONTARIO, California — Police in San Bernardino County say an officer shot and wounded a burglary suspect who rammed a police vehicle while trying to escape.

The Sun newspaper reports ( officers responded to a burglar alarm at a business in Ontario just after 3 a.m. Monday.

Sgt. Jeff Higbee says a man ran out of the business and jumped into the driver's seat of a box truck, reversing into a police cruiser. That's when an officer fired on the truck striking the 38-year-old man at least twice. The suspect's condition was not immediately known.

Higbee says a 25-year-old woman believed to be the man's accomplice was taken to a hospital for injuries caused by flying glass.

The woman has since been released and is being interviewed by investigators.

No officers were hurt.
