Fire in Mill City destroys sheriff's substation, city offices; no injuries reported

MILL CITY, Oregon — Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley says a building in Milly City housing a sheriff's substation and various city government offices has been destroyed by fire.

The sheriff's office says a city public works employee noticed a small fire had started next to equipment he'd just parked in the building Thursday morning.

Two deputies were writing reports in the building when they heard popping sounds. They reported that the wall turned orange before flames started coming through.

The building was evacuated. It houses the Mill City public works shop, library and an archive storage area.

No injuries were reported.

Mill City is located 40 miles southeast of Salem.
