TUCSON, Arizona — Tucson police say an officer fatally shot a man who was firing shots as he emerged from his apartment following a 10-hour standoff.

Police say 33-year-old Jordan Szymanski during the standoff fired shots that hit other apartments and two vehicles, including a police car.

According to police, the incident began late Sunday when police went to the apartment in response to a report of an assault. Police said Szymanski allegedly threatened to shoot someone and later began shooting inside his apartment.

Nearby apartments were evacuated during the standoff. Police said it ended around 3 a.m. Monday when Szymanski emerged and fired several shots.

Police said that's when a SWAT team member returned fire, fatally wounding Szymanski.
