Boy, 14, charged as juvenile in fatal shooting of 14-year-old girl in southwest Ohio

CINCINNATI — Court officials say a 14-year-old boy charged with reckless homicide in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old girl will remain in a juvenile detention center in southwestern Ohio pending a hearing next month.

A Hamilton County Juvenile Court official said Monday that the teen also is charged with having a weapon under disability. That allegation means the teen had a prior felony conviction and should not have had a gun.

A hearing is scheduled April 10 to determine whether he should be tried as a juvenile or as an adult in the Saturday shooting of Tyan Adkins.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the boy had an attorney. His family told reporters in Cincinnati that the shooting was an accident.

The Associated Press isn't naming the boy because of his age.
