QUEENSBURY, New York — A New York veteran of the Afghanistan war is one of seven soldiers from across the nation who'll be competing to be the best non-commissioned officer in the National Guard.

Staff Sgt. Jeff Dorvee of Queensbury in Warren County will be in Little Rock, Arkansas next week to compete for the opportunity to move on to the Best Warrior competition being held in Virginia in October.

Dorvee won first place in the regional competition against non-commissioned officers from New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine during a regional competition held in Vermont in May.

The Glens Falls native is a full-time active New York Army National Guard and Army Reserve soldier assigned to the 1427th Truck Co. in Queensbury as supply sergeant.

The three-day competition begins Monday.
