PANAMA CITY, Florida — A Panama City police officer has lost his job after being accused of stealing an iPad that was supposed to be stored in the department's property holding room.

The News Herald of Panama City (http://bit.ly/1reXxLU ) reports Officer Brandon Mistric has been charged with grand theft of more than $300 after the iPad came up missing in July as several people were being booked into the jail. He was arrested on Friday and immediately fired.

Spokesman Richard Thore says investigators found the iPad at the officer's home on Oct. 1. He admitted to taking the iPad.

He pleaded not guilty to the felony charges and was released on his own recognizance. It is not known whether he's retained an attorney.

Mistric had worked for the department for four years.
