Ethiopian runners have swept the top spots of the Dubai Marathon

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Ethiopian runners have swept the top spots of the Dubai Marathon.

The race, held Friday in the city-state of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, saw Tesfaye Abera Dibaba cross the finish line first with a time of 2:04:24, his personal best. Lemi Berhanu Hayle followed nine seconds later and Tsegaye Mekonnen Asefa came in third.

Among women competitors, Tirfi Tsegaye Beyene finished first with a time of 2:19:41.

Thousands took part in the 42-kilometer (26.1-mile) race, which took competitors past the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel and near Dubai's man-made Palm Jumeirah island.
