Elderly woman hurt during Bay County home invasion

FRASER TOWNSHIP, Michigan — A 20-year-old mid-Michigan man is blaming a fight at a dairy farm on bad mushrooms.

MLive.com reports (http://bit.ly/16AopRD) from court records that Matthew Wood told police in Bay County that he and a cousin had eaten psychedelic mushrooms before Thursday night's incident in Fraser Township.

Wood, of Pinconning, was arraigned Friday on first-degree home invasion and aggravated assault charges.

Court records show an 80-year-old woman was hurt after an intruder pushed her down in her farmhouse, about 90 miles northwest of Detroit. She was treated at a hospital.

The woman's relatives fought with the man until police arrived.

Bay City attorney Edward Czuprysnski told the judge at Wood's arraignment that the incident "is an aberration" and that "it was drug-related."

A preliminary examination is scheduled for May 15.
