EVERETT, Washington — A 33-year-old man who fatally stabbed his wife on a Monroe, Washington, sidewalk as she tried to hand him a protection order has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Jacoba Ramirez-Rodriguez was divorcing Oscar Garcia-Pacheco and cited his increasing anger and past assaults when she sought the court order to keep him away from her. She was stabbed 19 times on May 24, 2013, outside her workplace.

The Daily Herald reports (http://is.gd/VdhSDv ) the Monroe man was sentenced Monday in Snohomish County Superior Court. He earlier pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic violence murder with a deadly weapon.

The newspaper says Garcia-Pacheco isn't believed to be in the U.S. legally and may be deported after he is released from prison.
