NEWARK, New Jersey — Authorities say a former Newark police officer has been charged with harassing and stalking women he had dated and impersonating a police officer.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said Friday that 37-year-old Eddie Gonzalez, of Newark, was arrested Thursday.

He was being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Prosecutors say he was dismissed from the Newark Police Department in 2008.

Assistant Prosecutor David Feldman says that six different women had filed restraining orders against Gonzalez.

Authorities say that police searching his home Thursday discovered two guns, hollow point bullets and a closet full of Newark police uniforms they say he used to impersonate an officer.

He also faces weapons and identity theft charges.
