HARRISON, Arkansas — Police in Harrison have identified the woman who died following an apartment fire.

Police Chief Paul Woodruff told the Harrison Daily Times on Wednesday the deceased is 41-year-old Kathrine Frances Benefiel, but declined to name her 5-year-old son who was injured in the Tuesday blaze because of his age.

The child was flown to the Arkansas Children's Hospital, where Woodruff says he's still in serious condition.

Harrison police say witnesses told officers that fireworks were going off in front of the building and three youths ran from the scene.

Woodruff says remnants of fireworks were found on the building's front porch and in the yard. But he says two fire investigators examined the scene and had different opinions about what sparked the fire, the cause of which is still undetermined.
