House fire in rural Berkeley County claims 1 life; cause being investigated

ST. STEPHEN, South Carolina — Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a man in rural Berkeley County.

County Coroner Bill Salisbury tells media outlets that the victim was alone in the house just outside of St. Stephen at the time of the Monday morning fire.

The name of the man was not immediately released.

Investigators from the State Law Enforcement Division are working to figure out what caused the fire.
