Marshall guard Kareem Canty granted release from team

Share/Save/Bookmark

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia — Marshall point guard Kareem Canty has been granted his release from the team.

Marshall initially denied Canty's transfer request. The Charleston Daily Mail (http://bit.ly/OPTauY) reports Canty won his appeal Friday before a school committee.

Tom Herrion resigned as Marshall's coach last month.

Canty averaged 16 points and more than five assists per game as a freshman last season, when Marshall finished 11-22. He got the point guard job after DeAndre Kane transferred to Iowa State a year ago.
