Woman pleads guilty in drive-by shooting death, sentenced to 35 years in prison


LYNCHBURG, Virginia — A woman will spend the next 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to the death of a man in a drive-by shooting.

The News and Advance ( ) reports 23-year-old April Renae Bateman was sentenced Monday in Lynchburg.

Bateman was one of eight people, including three juveniles, convicted of felony charges in connection to the June 2014 death of Lawrence Maliek Giusto.

Bateman pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and two others pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. The rest were convicted of accessory to murder. They have yet to be sentenced.

Prosecutors say Bateman fired the fatal shot. Three in the group, including Bateman were actively shooting at Guisto and his friend, Seneca Tune, as they sat in a parked car listening to music.
