MOUNT VERNON, New York — Firefighters in Mount Vernon battled an early morning fire at a wholesale bakery facility along a commercial and residential strip.

Police say the fire broke out before 7 a.m. Monday at Artuso Pastry on the corner of 12th Avenue and Third Street. There were no reports of injuries.

Police say billowing gray smoke could be seen for miles.

Artuso Pastry also has retail locations in Mamaroneck and in the Bronx near Arthur Avenue.

Nathaly Corridori, the general manager of Artuso Pastry's Bronx location, told the Journal News (http://lohud.us/1Gfj7LD ) the fire was believed to have started in the boiler room.

She says workers tried to put it out with fire extinguishers. She says they evacuated after the fire quickly spread.

She said no one was injured and everyone was accounted for.
