Statue of slain Terre Haute officer to be dedicated at city's police headquarters

TERRE HAUTE, Indiana — A Terre Haute police officer slain in the line of duty will be honored with a statue in the western Indiana city.

The dedication of a statue to fallen Officer Brent Long and his police dog Shadow will highlight a police memorial ceremony on Thursday at the Terre Haute police headquarters. The annual ceremony honors police officers killed in the line of duty.

The Terre Haute Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/ZOcyf0 ) the statue was designed by Terre Haute artist Bill Wolfe and cast in bronze.

Long and Shadow were both shot while serving a warrant in July 2011. Long died from his injuries. Shadow was shot in the jaw, resulting in a career-ending injury.
