MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police say an officer has shot an armed robbery suspect.

Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn says the shooting happened just before 3 p.m. Monday at a Dollar General store, which a masked man with a handgun was trying to rob.

Flynn says two officers confronted the man inside the store and ordered him to drop the gun. When he refused, the chief says one of the officers shot the man who then apparently shot himself.

The Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1Ew6Pj0) reports both officers attempted life-saving efforts before paramedics took the man to a hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

The shooting comes days after Milwaukee police shot and killed a man who authorities say was threatening his estranged wife with a knife.
