Deputy and paramedic can't get inside to save 14-month-old boy in Rock Hill house fire

ROCK HILL, South Carolina — Authorities say a 14-month-old boy has died in a fire at his Rock Hill home.

York County Sheriff's spokesman Trent Faris said at a news conference that a deputy and an off-duty paramedic tried to get into the mobile home to rescue the boy around 8:30 a.m. Friday, but the flames were too intense.

Faris says five people lived at the home, but he didn't know who was inside when the fire started. He says no one else was injured.

The coroner's office identified the child as Joshua Hill. An autopsy has been ordered.

Faris says investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
